I’ve moved my blog
April 18, 2011
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking. I’ve been going back and forth, looking at pros and cons trying to get the big picture. And after a while I made the decision to merge my blog with my portfolio. Therefor it is now located over at my other domain www.danieleek.com/blog . I’m not sure if I’m gonna close Encina or not, or for how long I’ll keep it online, but there won’t be any blog posts here from now on. I’m really sorry for any inconvenience and I hope to see you over at my “new” domain!
My Evil Dead on Posterwhore
April 8, 2011

The best days always (?) begins with some good news. This morning I got a nice email from Joshua telling me that my Evil Dead 30th Anniversary poster is featured on Posterwhore. Thanks, I appreciate it!
Lissie is catching a Tiger in Stockholm
March 28, 2011

Less than a week ago, the very charming Lissie came to Stockholm for a visit with her band and had a fantastic show at Göta Källare. I made this poster inspired by her latest music video “Everywhere I go”. At first I had an idea with an elephant (as in the video) but decided to play along more with the title of her album “Catching a Tiger”, but staying true to the colours, atmosphere and feeling of her music and video. And instead of showing everything, I played around and I’ve hidden some things in the poster that you might not see unless you know it’s there.
You can see some more of my process over at Behance.
The Evil Dead 30th Anniversary
March 19, 2011

It’s been 30 years since it first hit the theatres and it was probably the most scary movie I’ve seen as a teen. And to celebrate that I decided to make a tribute to Sam Raimi, and my personal favorite Bruce Campbell, for their classic horror movie Evil Dead with this poster. I did a different approach than the original but used elements and details from the movie to create this abstract dark theme.
I have posted the whole process over at Behance so if you want to see some of the sketches and early process, have a look!
Solitude – The Extended Revival
March 3, 2011

A while back, Christian Lindberg and I worked with Swedish hardcore/metal band Solitude and helped them with their identity and first album artwork along with some other things. I’m sure some of you already seen the cover and is now wondering why I’m writing about it again. The reason is simple! We put some of our old sketches and process and published it over at Behance. So feel free to head over there and have a look, comment if you like and tell us what you think.
Ricochet is coming
When I’m already talking about Solitude I can also tease about their new single “Ricochet” that will be released any time soon. Behind the design…? Yours truly together again with Christian. As soon as the band release it we will show you the process, the finished artwork and who knows, maybe even some bonus material!
Karey – Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
March 2, 2011

Wonderful design made by Moruba. Don’t know what it is but a simple bottle with nice typography always make very happy.
Late night sketching
March 1, 2011

I haven’t been drawing much the past couple of years so I thought it was about time. So the other night I sat down on my couch glancing at what was on the tv and doing some scribbles. Not very long into it I found something I like. This goofy looking skull is the start of it. I haven’t really decided where to take it from here but I have some ideas.
Lucha Girl & Lady Killer Tees
February 13, 2011

I’m not sure if these two t-shirts were just released or not, but I had to write something about them. Usually when I see clothing from Affliction there is pretty much always a skull or wings or something of that kind, and I guess that’s why I like these two even more. Two hot girls and nice typography. I couldn’t ask for more!

About a year ago, I first saw the teaser poster for the movie “Monsters” and was really curious of what kind of movie it was. The poster was a bit different and not the typical hollywood “lets-show-all-the-faces-of-the-cool-main-actors-so-we-sell-more” kind of poster but a very simple but strong one. And it got stuck in my head. Later on I saw the trailer for the movie and I was really appealed by the feeling and atmosphere. It didn’t feel like the normal monster movie. And since we have been drained by remakes and sequels it’s a refreshing sight to be able to see something new.
